Geoffrey Allen Geoff Young passed away on March 2, 2009. Geoff was born August 19, 1929 in Stamford, Texas to John B. and Lillie Brittain Young. He lived in Spur, Texas, with his grandfather, Frank Oscar Brittain until the age of 11, then moved to Springtown, Texas to live with his grandparents, George Lee and Fannie Prague Young. He graduated from Springtown high school in 1946 and entered the U. S. Navy in September of that year. He served 10 years in the regular Navy, having been awarded the WW II Victory, China Service, Navy Occupation, National Defense and Good Conduct medals. Also, Geoff worked at the Pentagon before retiring from the U. S. Naval Reserve after 22 years of service. He married Albina Pauline Bonnie Fuedale in August of 1950. Two sons were born of this union, Andrew Lee Young and John Wesley Young. She died in May of 1994. He remarried Melba Joyce Chaffin in February 1996. Geoff was retired from Texas State Technical College in Waco where he was a senior instructor in the Instrumentation Department. He earned his bachelors and masters degrees Tarleton State University in Stephenville. Before teaching at TSTC, Waco, he was employed by Johnson Controls, Inc., in Carrollton, Texas as a Senior Project Engineer. While at Johnson Controls, he was awarded two patents in electronic devices. He enjoyed genealogy, painting, scuba diving, traveling to Tennessesse, learning the history of the Cherokee Indians and listening to music, especially Johnny Cash. He was a member of Towash Baptist Church in Whitney. He was preceded in death by son, John Wesley Young. Survivors include his wife, Melba; son, Andrew Lee Young and wife, Cindy of West; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Young Rhodes and husband, John F. of Garland, Judy Carol Young Flynn and husband, Jack E. of Houston; uncle, David Earl Brittain and wife, Mary of Clifton; 5 grandsons, Chad Young, Cody Young and wife, Dana both of Kingston, OK, Gino Young and wife, Nikki, Chance Young and wife, Christa and Allen Young all of Whitney and 4 great grandchildren.
