George (David) Duke, 82, of Meridian, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024. at Goodall Witcher Nursing Home in Clifton. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 am, Friday, July 5, 2024 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 5, 2024 at Marshall and Marshall with Brother Richard Creech officiating. Burial to follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Whitney, Texas.
David was born in Goodnight, TX on March 3, 1942. David and his family lived in the Amarillo area through his graduation from Amarillo High School. David became an officer in ROTC while in School and went into the Army after graduation where he served as a Non-Commissioned officer and obtained high level clearance as a Green Beret.
David worked as a Computer Network Engineer in the Corporate world but he was always a Cowboy at heart with all the Cowboy ways. David loved horses and trained in cutting horses as a hobby. He enjoyed attending the cutting events in Fort Worth every year. David and his wife, Kay, retired to Meridian in 2006 where he worked part time with the Meridian EDC for several years. David obtained a pilots license in his 30’s, flying small aircraft. Many days in his retirement you could find him surrounded by his three tv screens, flying high with his high tech simulator, until his Parkinson’s Disease made it impossible for him. David was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hurst, Sons of the Republic of Texas, Meridian Chamber of Commerce, and Meridian Public Library.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Willa Mae Duke; sister, Margaret; brother, Jesse Doug Duke; and stepdaughter, Angie Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter, Laura Womack and husband, Glen, of Conroe; stepson, Richie Fenn and wife, Christina, of Azle; brother, Manuel of Amarillo; granddaughter, Kasey Womack; step granddaughters, Amber Smith, Jamie Stevens, Kayla Thomas, and Krista Medlock; grandson Tyler Fenn and wife, MacKenzie; great grandsons, Aiden, Jaxon, Rylin, and Lucian; and great granddaughter, Harley, and “Baby” Thomas to arrive later this year.
