George Rogers Farrow, age 94, passed away on May 6, 2023, in St. Louis, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Waco, TX with Rev. Theodore Tsitsilianos presiding. Burial will follow on Thursday at Whitney Memorial Park.
George was born on October 17, 1928, in Dallas, Texas to parents Rogers George Farrow and Margaret Ingram Farrow. He grew up in Dallas Oak Cliff and attended Sunset High School. He graduated from North Texas State University with a degree in business. Upon graduation, he joined his father in the family-owned plumbing business, Farrow and Son Plumbing. He carried on the family plumbing enterprise upon his father’s retirement and earned his Master Plumber accreditation through the State of Texas. After more than 30 years as a small business owner, George became an inspector for the City of Dallas, the position from which he retired.
George was a devoted family man and was married for 69 years to the former Shirley Jean Silliman, who preceded him in death on November 25, 2018. They spent their retirement years as avid RV enthusiasts, traveling throughout the country to take in the sights and to visit friends and family. George and Shirley dedicated themselves to their family throughout their lives and raised four children in the Dallas area.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean Farrow, and his oldest son, Scott Rogers Farrow, who passed away in 2012. He is survived by his brother David Farrow and his wife, Carolyn, of Dallas, TX; a daughter, Debra Jean Farrow and her dear friend, Gerald Medina, of Whitney, TX; a son, Douglas Eugene Farrow and his wife, Rebecca, of Rockwall, TX; and a daughter, Sherry Jo Logusch and her husband Eugene, of Ballwin, MO. George is also survived by his six grandchildren whom he adored, Zachary Rogers Farrow of Wylie, TX, Jared Bennett Farrow of Ft. Worth, TX, Rachel Elaine Farrow of Ft. Worth, TX, Nicholas Emil Logusch of St. Louis, MO, Alexander George Logusch of Ballwin, MO, and Elena Katherine Logusch of Ballwin, MO.
George loved the Lord and was a baptized member of the Greek Orthodox Church. He would sing his favorite hymns, Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art, with a powerful voice for anyone who might ask. He was a devoted father who wrote to his children weekly while they were away at college, and he was known to show up on campus to see his children and shadow them for a day of classes. One of the greatest gifts he bestowed on his children was a working knowledge of the plumber’s arts.
George had a winsome personality and readily struck up conversations with anyone he met. His latest circle of friends were his fellow residents at Westview Senior Living Center in Ellisville, MO where he was known as the “activity guy” who participated in every activity offered to the community.
He made known in his later life that his only wish was to proclaim the Gospel with his living example as one who availed himself of Christ’s amazing grace, ever hopeful of spending his eternity with the Lord.
