George Garrison

George Garrison, 90, of Granbury, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at Quail Park Retirement Village in Granbury. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Nancy Schusler and Rev. Donna Ware officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2013, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Mr. Garrison will lie in state beginning at 9:00 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2013.

George was born October 26, 1923 near Jacks Branch in Hill County to George Clark and Thelma Eulalia (Roberts) Garrison. He attended Union Bluff and Hillsboro schools. In February 1943, he joined the United States Army and served with Company B, 300th Engineers, in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged in October, 1945.

On June 6, 1946, he married Emma Jane Crowe in Hillsboro. He was with Central Freight for 39½ years where he was a terminal manager until his retirement in 1985. An avid hunter and fisherman, George loved to tell war stories and cherished the moments shared with his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. George was a life long resident of Hillsboro until 2011, when he and Emma Jane moved to Quail Park Retirement Village in Granbury.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Jeff Garrison.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Emma Jane Garrison of Granbury; three children, Jan Canup of Hico, Mike Garrison and wife, Sharon, of Athens, and Becky Curtis and husband, Randy, of Glen Rose; brother, Don Garrison of Bullard; three sisters, Geri Allen of Garland, Marie Garrison of Dallas, and Kate Hardy of California; three granddaughters, Kenda Kennedy and husband, Jeff, of Keller, Mikka Bach and husband, J. P., of San Marcos, and Bryn Curtis and husband, John, of Allen; and six great-grandchildren, Garrison, Judd, Sebastian, Colton, Ella, and Harper.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 673, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
