George Mangham, 67, of Whitney passed away on Monday, February 13,2012, at his home.
On Saturday afternoon, February 18th a memorial service was held under George's favorite pavilion in Cedar Creek Park overlooking Lake Whitney. Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life and share their stories of how he inspired their lives. Visitation was held immediately after the memorial service.
George was born on July 14, 1944, in San Antonio to Ralph and Marion (Chambers) Mangham. He was raised in San Antonio until he moved to California in the early sixties. He soon joined the Navy and served in Vietnam. Shortly after his discharge from the Navy he returned to Texas where he met and married Elaine Schmidtke in 1966. They had two children, Tommy and Melissa, and were married for 34 years. He worked for the Department of Defense (DOD) as a printer prior to his retirement.
He was preceded in death by a son, T. G. Mangham, a brother, Gene Mangham, and nephews, David, Joe and Henry Grabber.
Survivors include his mother, Marion Wismer of Fountain Valley, CA; father, Ralph Mangham and wife, Margaret of Kerrville; daughter, Melissa Tunnell and husband, Rick of Midlothian; granddaughter, Nicole Tunnell of Midlothian; stepdaughter, Tish McDonald and husband, Michael of Sringtown and their two children, Levi and Samantha; sister, Jan Mangham-Schindler and husband, Rick of Fountain Valley, CA; uncle, Jimmy Glasscock and wife, Lucy of El Paso; and numerous cousings, nieces, nephews, and friends.
