George Millard, 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Bynum with his family by his side on Saturday afternoon, July 26, 2014. Funeral services will be at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 29, 2014 with Rev. Edward Sumrall of First Baptist Church of Bynum officiating. Burial will follow at Brandon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday at the funeral home.

George made Bynum his home all of his life. Born there on March 19, 1922, he was the son of George Henry and Clyde (Frazier) Millard. He was a graduate of Bynum High School. During WWII, he served his country in the United States Army from October 1942 to February 1946. Upon his return home to Bynum, he married Lois Cain on June 22, 1946. Together they reared two children, Cathy and Steve, on the farm where George was brought up by his mother, grandparents, and aunts. First and foremost in his heart were God and his family. George loved his farmland in Bynum and it was there he earned his living growing cotton, corn, maize, and also raising cattle.

For many years, he and Lois enjoyed traveling in their RV, visiting almost every state and never meeting a stranger. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bynum where he dutifully served as a deacon. George was also a member of the VFW and an enthusiastic deer hunter. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Nora McMahan and Margaret Mitchell; and two cousins, Norman Frazier and Dortha Newton, who were raised as his siblings.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lois Millard of Bynum; two children, Cathy McDowell and husband, Jim, of Arlington, and Steve Millard and wife, Gail, of North Richland Hills; four grandchildren, DeAnn Chianese and husband, Robert, of Frisco, Brad McDowell and wife, Shelby, and Craig McDowell and wife, Erin, all of The Woodlands, and Dustin Millard and wife, Krista, of Castle Rock, CO; eight great-grandchildren, James, Dylan, Sarah, Peyton, Josephine, Paige, Samantha, and Rebecca; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Hill Regional Hospital, Dr. Baurerschlag, The Legends, and Providence Hospice for their committed care and attention to George. Memorials may be made to either First Baptist Church, PO Box 86, Bynum, TX 76631 or Brandon-Bynum Cemetery Association, PO Box 111, Brandon, TX 76628.
