George William Transier, age 83, passed away on August 27th, 2012, in Mesa, Arizona after a brief illness. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, son and friend, George will be sorely missed by all who knew him.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on August 31, 2012 at the King Memorial United Methodist Church in Whitney, Texas with interment following at Hillcrest Garden of Memory. Visitation will be at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney, Texas from 6-8:00pm on August 30, 2012. A reception for relatives and friends will be held at Lake Whitney RV Community Center, 113 Yellowstone Dr. immediately following the cemetery services.

George was born during the Great Depression on April 4, 1929, in Moores Hill, Indiana to Carolyn and Albert Transier. At the age of seven, George moved into the Indiana Masonic Home where he lived until he graduated from high school. He served in the Air Force and was a decorated Mason. George attended Purdue University before joining Mobil Oil in 1954, where his career spanned 40 years. He married Bette Otterstetter, the love of his life, in 1954; they shared 52 loving years together before Bette’s passing in 2006. Their marriage produced three children: William Lee, Linda Sue “Susie” and John Gregory.

George was a man of strong faith, lived life to its fullest and was very involved in his church both in Mesa, Arizona and Whitney, Texas. He was a dedicated student of the Bible enhanced by a degree in Theology from Dallas Baptist University. In 1993, George completed a book titled “Gospel Notes” which was dedicated to his wife, children and the many who had helped him with his bible study. His strength of character and faith had a profound effect on many who knew him during his life.

In addition to his children and their spouses, survivors include his companion, Nancy Halberstadt, sister, Dorothy Howard, sisters and brothers- in-law, Janie and Hans Waage, Bonnie and Bud Gookins, twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and countless friends. George was preceded in death by brothers John and Lee Transier.
