Gladys Layne

Gladys Christine Layne, 97, of Fort Worth passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Senior Care of Midland. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Mr. Ben Oefinger officiating. Burial will follow at Vaughan Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, at the funeral home.

Born to William Christopher Gibson and India Valentine Clements Gibson on May 2, 1920 in Hill County, she was the youngest of six children. On September 27, 1940, she was united in marriage to Robert Dean “Bo” Layne and they had four children.

Christine was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Cleburne. She was also a long time member of the Cleburne Quilt Guild and a volunteer at the Walls Hospital in Cleburne for over 15 years. She was very proud of her green volunteer jacket.

Preceding her in death was her husband Bo in 1981; son, Dale Edward Layne in 1992; parents; two sisters, Bertha May Gregory and Jessie Gibson Tanner; and three brothers, William Earl Gibson, Gaston “Kirk” Gibson, and Arthur Franklin Gibson.

Survivors include her two sons, Robert Layne and wife, Susan, and Jerry Layne and wife, Judy; daughter, Paula Layne Sanchez and husband, Robert; six grandchildren, Anthony “Tony” Surratt, Keller Miller and husband, George, Jeff Layne and wife, Liza, Jamie Surratt and wife, Shara, Sarah Cronin and husband, Jim, and Christopher Layne and wife, Mindy; eight great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Miller, Elinor Layne, Peter Layne, Zac Cronin, Alice Layne, Lucy Layne, BeauAnthony Surratt, and Brooklyn Surratt; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
