Gladys Louise Cooper Leatherwood, 88, of Hillsboro died Saturday, July 16, 2011, in Hillsboro. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday July 19, 2011, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Rev. Donna Ware of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 PM Monday at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Louise was born October 18, 1922 in Taylor Valley near Belton, to Louis Francis and Nannie Cleveland (Rucker) Cooper. The family moved to a farm near Bynum in 1932 and she attended Bynum Schools. She married James Leatherwood on June 9, 1939 and they were married for sixty years before he preceded her in death on July 19, 1999.

She lived in Hillsboro from 1939 until her death and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hillsboro.

Louise was a homemaker and dedicated her life to family, home, and God. Children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest love. She always had food around for all visitors and her greatest pleasure were the family gatherings. Other activities in her life were working for the Buddy Jones Campaign and being a Sunday school teacher for many years.

Also preceding her in death were grand-daughters, Keri Suzanne Leatherwood and Kristen Nicole Leatherwood, brother; John Cooper, sisters; Mary (Sis) Baird, Marzee Baird, Velma Dobbins, and Clara Beaty.

Louise is survived by three children; Mike Leatherwood and wife Karen of Hillsboro, Marilyn Sanders of Rowlett, and Lana Crow and husband Lew of Hillsboro, one sister, Charlene Vinyard of San Marcos, grandchildren; Kim McCleskey, Greg Markwardt, Shelby Crawford and husband Matthew, Jason Crow, and John Graham and wife Jennifer, great-grandchildren; Lauren Stanley, Jake McCleskey, Garrett McCleskey, Megan Markwardt, Marley Markwardt, and Madelyn Markwardt, Audri Crawford, and Ava Crawford.
