Gladys Mae Scott, 93, of Silsbee passed away Monday, July 4, 2011, in a Beaumont hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Ridge Park Cemetery with Rev. Ken James officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Gladys was born December 2, 1917 near Hillsboro to Ephraim Richard and Myrtie L. (Wilkinson) Scott. She lived in Hillsboro all her life. A graduate of Hillsboro High School, Gladys was Valedictorian of Hillsboro Junior College, received her Bachelors degree from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, and her Master degree from North Texas University in Denton. For two years she taught in rural schools in Hill County and for 43 years at Franklin Elementary in Hillsboro, where she also served as principal for many years. Since the age of 9, she had been a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, where she taught the Junior Department of Sunday School for 11 years and was a member of the adult choir. She was also past president of Delta Gamma Chapter of the Delta Gamma Society, life member of Texas Parent Teacher Association, and member of the National Retired Teachers Association and the Texas Retired Teachers Association.
Preceding her in death were her parents and three brothers, Murl Lee Scott, Ashley Alton Scott, and Robert Glenn Scott.
Survivors include nephews and nieces, Dale Scott and Andrew Scott of Silsbee, Ashley Scott of Bryan, Kathy Marble of Stephenville, and Mike Scott of Tallahassee, FL; and many great-nieces and nephews.
