With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Glenda Walker, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who left us on July 6, 2024, at the age of 64. Born in Hillsboro, Texas, Glenda spent her final moments in Midlothian, Texas, surrounded by the love of her family and the grace of her faith.
Glenda's life was a symphony of joy, music, and faith. She found immense joy in singing, whether it was hymns at her cherished First Baptist Church of Milford, Texas, or spontaneous country music song that filled her home. Her laughter was infectious, and her tears shared the depth of her empathy and love. Glenda's devotion to Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through every challenge and celebration. Her faith was a beacon of hope and strength, illuminating the lives of all who knew her.
Family was Glenda's greatest treasure. She spent countless hours with her mother, Dorothy Gilley, her brother Steve Gilley and sister-in-law April Gilley, her sisters Brenda Purser and her husband Robert, Karen Lemley, Janet Falzerano and her husband Joe, and her sons Albert Chad Walker, James Patrick Gaddes and his wife Kyla, and Jonathan Gaddes and his wife Helen. Her grandchildren, Destiny, Hunter, and Stellen, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, were the light of her life.
Glenda was preceded in death by her father, James Gilley, her beloved spouse, Edwin Leon Cockerham, and her loyal dog, Dixie. Their memories remained close to her heart, as she often spoke of the day they would all be reunited in heaven.
A true Texan at heart, Glenda loved traveling, especially to the beach, where she found peace in the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun. Mexican food dinners and family gatherings were among her favorite occasions, filled with laughter, stories, and the joy of being together. Her passion for capturing memories led to countless photos of her loved ones, often candid, each one a testament to the beauty she saw in those around her.
In her own words, Glenda was known as the "wild one," direct and sometimes stubborn. Over the past 15 years, she embraced a profound transformation, accepting Christ into her heart and dedicating her life to living in His image. She found solace in the promise of eternal happiness and the reunion with those who had gone before her. Glenda's message to all was clear: to see her again, one must accept Jesus into their heart today, not tomorrow. She wanted everyone to know of His glory and the promises He makes about life.
A memorial service celebrating Glenda’s life will be held at First Baptist Church of Milford, Texas, where she found a loving congregation and a place of worship that meant the world to her. Charitable donations can be made in Glenda’s name to her church.
Glenda's legacy is one of love, faith, and unyielding devotion to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
