Gracie Mae Cheatham, 87, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, April 25, 2011, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 28, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro with Rev. Nancy Froman officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Gracie was born September 26, 1923 in Hillsboro, where she lived all her life, to Walker Hughes and Fannie (James) Taylor. On November 12, 1942 she married B. H. Cheatham in Hillsboro and he preceded her in death on February 18, 1963. A very dedicated mother, Gracie raised and provided for her four young children after the death of her husband. For 15 years, she was an assembly worker at Rangaire. Gracie loved working in her yard and tending her garden. She also enjoyed taking care of her home, doing painting and repairs on it well into her seventies. She was a member of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.
Also preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Ruby Underwood and Billie Gregory.
Survivors include her four children, Ronnie Cheatham and wife, Betty, of Temple, Jimmy Cheatham of Taylor, Karen Borger and husband, Tom, of Dallas, and Debbie Riggs and husband, Mark, of Arlington; brother, Garland James of Cedar Creek; three grandchildren, Jeff Cheatham, Ken Cheatham, and Colby Riggs; four great-grandchildren, Barton, Bethany, Katie, and Ali Cheatham; and a number of nieces and nephews.
