Gus Jones Sr

Gus Glen Jones, Sr. 82 of Whitney went to be with his Lord and Savior May 20, 2010. Gus was born April 16, 1928 in Hillsboro to Gus M. Jones and Bernice Jones. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Gus served three years with the U. S. Constabular Army in Germany from 1946 to 1949. He married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Eubank Jones May 1946. Gus graduated from Hillsboro High School, Hillsboro College and attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He worked with National Geophysical as a surveyor, Robert H Ray Geophysical as a supervisor, returned to the Whitney area in 1963 and became owner of Gus Jones Conoco and later became a supervisor at A. O. Smith bomb plant in Waco. He retired from Owen - Corning Fiber Glass plant in 1990 at Waxahachie. After retirement he continued to farm and ranch in the Whitney and Aquilla area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Bernice Jones, in-laws, Robert and Estella Eubank and daughter, Rhonda Jolly. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Gwen; son, Gus Glen Jones, Jr. and wife, Frances of Whitney, son-in-law, Lloyd Jolly of Austin; four grandchildren, Savannah Jolly, Cameron Jolly, Gus G. Jones, III and Neil Cort Jones; great grandson, Xavier Jolly, sister, Anita Adler; brothers, Bob Jones and wife, Bobbie of Hillsboro, Jack Jones and wife Patricia of Terrell; numerous nieces and nephews.
