Guy Robert Bruce, 72, of Whitney, passed away on December 13, 2017 in Waco. The family will hold a memorial service at the family home at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 16, 2017.
Guy was born on August 7, 1945, in Hillsboro, to Guy and Edith (Davidson) Bruce, grew up in Hill County and attended schools in Whitney. From 1964-1965 he worked in construction on Interstate 35. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from April 1, 1966 until he was honorably discharged on July 17, 1969, serving two tours of duty in Viet Nam.
On May 18, 1968, he married Barbara Ruth Elmes in Philadelphia, PA.
After his military career, he began working in construction in Philadelphia until he was forced to retire in 1989. After retirement, he moved to McAlester, Oklahoma where he lived until 2015 when he returned home to his place of birth and completed the circle.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and bow fisherman, and was also a member of the American Legion Post #522 and Disabled American Veterans.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his son, George Russell “Rusty” Bruce.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Bruce of Whitney; brothers, Rudy Bruce and wife, Karissa of Wagoner, OK, Knox Bruce of Mineral Wells, Gery Don Bruce and Ronald Bruce and wife Tracy, all of Whitney, and Brack Bruce and wife Pollyanna of Fletcher, OK; a sister-in-law, Beverly Elmes of Philadelphia, PA; granddaughter, Harley Rebecca Bruce of Taunton, MA; nieces, Georgette Sparks and husband, Matt of Westchester, PA and Sheila Stafford of Wagoner, OK; nephews, Michael Bruce and wife, Marriah of Yelm, WA, and Barry Bruce and wife, Mellissa of Whitney; niece, and several great-nieces and nephews.
