Gw "Dub" Richardson

GW “Dub” Richardson went to be with his Lord on February 25, 2024, at the age of 95.  Private services were held.

Dub was born on November 17, 1928, in Hill County, Texas, near the old Yates Cemetery, to Johnny and Lillie Mae Richardson.  He met Wanda Lou Carpenter in Lamesa, Texas, when both of their families were there in the Labor Camp during World War II working in the egg plant that supported the troops overseas.  They fell in love and were married on June 28, 1947, and moved shortly thereafter to the Four Corners area near Farmington, New Mexico, in the early 1950’s where Dub worked various jobs in the oilfield.  During this time they had three children.  Wanda Ann was born in 1948 in Lamesa and Royce Gene “Buddy” and Jerry Wayne were both born in Farmington in 1952 and 1954, respectively.

After living more than several places around the small community of Flora Vista, New Mexico, which included a short stay in Moab, Utah, the family moved back to Texas in 1962 to Lamesa where Dub worked as a mechanic.  The family moved a short time later to a small farmhouse near Woodbury in Hill County before finally settling down in the West Texas town of Denver City in 1964 where Dub worked in the oil field and was able to start his own trucking business.  After retiring in about 1990, he and Wanda settled in Peoria, Texas, close to where Dub was born.  They were married 74 years before Covid took Wanda Lou in August of 2021.  Dub made it through that Covid episode and yet another bout a year later before finding his final resting place.

Dub was also preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Lillie Mae Richardson; a son, Jerry Wayne Richardson; four sisters, Lois, Maggie, Eva Nell, and Jackie; three brothers, Johnny, Marvin, and Jimmy; and a granddaughter, Rhonda Lynn Cleveland Manning.

Dub is survived by his daughter, Wanda Ann Richardson Moriarty and husband, John, of Richards, Texas; son, Royce Gene Richardson and wife, Dawn, of Southlake, Texas; daughter-in-law, Ann Richardson of Tuscola, Texas; seven grandchildren; at least 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby of Hill County; and sisters, Lessie of Munday, Texas and Joyce of Iredell, Texas.

Dub will forever be remembered by those who knew him as a hard-working man, willing to help anyone.  He loved to hunt and fish, drive his tractor, and work on his small place in Peoria.
