Gwen Eubank

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Simon Eubank, 88, of Whitney passed away on October 2, 2020, at Providence Hospital in Waco. A graveside service and burial will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Whitney Memorial Park with Rev. Brad Slaten officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the funeral services from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney. To protect the health and safety of Gwen’s family and friends, all attendees will be required to wear a mask or face covering and practice social distancing at all times.

Gwen was born Gwendolyn Hortense Simon near Whitney, Texas on September 5, 1932, to Elmer Festus “Nick” Simon and Mable Irene (Baty) Simon. On August 1, 1950, she married Charles “Charlie” Dale Eubank in Durant, Oklahoma, to whom she was married until his death in 2012.  After receiving a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Education from Baylor University, Gwen served for many years as a school teacher for Whitney ISD and later as a Principal and Assistant Superintendent. In addition to being an educator, Gwen took great pride in her entrepreneurial pursuits, owning and operating Mr. Charlie’s, a local women’s fashion boutique which she commonly referred to as the “dress shop”, and later managing her daughter-in-law’s store, Relics, in downtown Whitney. She was also a committed public servant and volunteer, offering her years of experience in education to Hill College where she served on the Board of Regents for many years and volunteering many hours of service to the King Memorial United Methodist Church, of which she was a lifelong member. In her “spare” time, Gwen enjoyed researching the Eubank family genealogy and compiled extensive notebooks filled with personal letters, news stories and historical documents tracing the family lineage back to the Middle Ages. Gwen will be remembered not only for her keen intellect and genuine respect for others, but also for her unfailing love and commitment to her family, especially her grandchildren, with each of whom she created a unique, special bond.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, her parents Nick and Mable, her brother, Bob Simon and her sister Mary Hannah.

Survivors include her children: Charles Dale Eubank, Jr. and wife, Julie of Corpus Christi, TX; Kent Eubank and wife, Susan of Whitney, TX; six grandchildren: Kara Richardson and husband, Zachary Sniderman of Houston, TX; Lindsey Peterson and husband, David of Houston, TX; Anne Eubank and husband, Charles Brown of Houston, TX; Miranda Eubank of Corpus Christi, TX; Carter Eubank and wife, Bianca of Waco, TX; Cameron Eubank of Austin, TX; nine great-grandchildren: Chase Brown of Houston, Texas; Parker Brown of Houston, Texas; Will Richardson of Houston, TX; Charles Richardson of Houston, TX; James Simmons of Houston, TX; Lucy Simmons of Houston, TX; David Sniderman of Houston, TX; Natalie Peterson of Houston, Texas; Claire Peterson of Houston, TX; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends in the Whitney and surrounding communities.
