H. C. "Preacher" Westberry, 92, of Hillsboro died Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Ceneter in Waco. H. C. "Preacher" was born May 3, 1913 in Files Community, Hill County, Texas the son of Hubert and Martha Cheek Westberry. He was born, raised and graduated high school in the Files Valley community, and also attended Texas A & M. After school he helped his father farm. He worked at many jobs as a young man. On Sept. 17, 1936 he married Mary Morris in Paducah, Texas. He farmed and ranched for several years before starting a feed store in Itasca in 1947. He also ran a store in Cleburne and owned and operated Westberry?s Farm and Ranch Supply in Hillsboro, until his retirement in the mid 1980's. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Itasca and very active in the Heart of Texas and Whitney Chapters of Alcoholics Anonymous serving in a leadership role. He participated two nights every week as long as he was able to drive and would have received his 45 year chip this month. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Mary Westberry, on November 23, 1996; a son, Hubert Morris ?Butch? Westberry, in 1959; three brothers; and one sister. Survivors include five daughters, Ann Elder and husband, Marvin, of Carrollton, Linda Morman and husband, Greg, of Crystal River, FL, Mary Crouch and husband, John, of Itasca, Janice Goodman and husband, William, Hillsboro, and Carol Keeton and husband, Stan, of San Antonio; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
