Hans Fred Blocklinger, 75, of Whitney, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at a Waco hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 6, 2014, at the Whitney Church of Christ, with Mr. Bruce Martin, officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.
Hans was born in Healdton, Oklahoma, on February 23, 1939, to William Frederick and Jewel Ovella (Tucker) Blocklinger. He grew up in McAllen, graduating from high school there. He then attended and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. In 1962, he entered the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant, serving in Korea and Vietnam before retiring in 1999 as a Colonel. On June 5, 1959, he married Betty Miller. While still serving in the Army, he received his master’s degree and taught administration to supervisors at Cameron University. He and Betty moved to the Whitney area in 2000 where enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Hans was a member of the Lions Club, a lifetime member of American Legion Post #522 of Whitney, a lifetime member of the VFW and a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Cootie. He was also a member of Whitney Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Blocklinger of Whitney; children, Jennifer Daniel and husband, Randy, of Midlothian, Eva Renea Blocklinger of Whitney and David Blocklinger of San Antonio; grandchildren, Phillip Glen Blocklinger, Amanda Michelle Martinez, and Katie Anne Daniel.
