Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory in Hillsboro.
Harold, lovingly known as "Joe," was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on July 28, 1944, to the late Harold Joe Sr. and Lois Cheek. Joe attended Tuloso Midway High School in Corpus Christi, Texas before joining the United States Army in 1962. He bravely served his country in Vietnam. In 1973, Joe married Charlotte, his best friend and the love of his life. For 51 years, he was a loving husband, partner, protector, and provider. Together they created a life they loved. Charlotte was faithfully by his side until his last breath. After moving to Whitney in the 1970s, Joe was part of many business endeavors, providing excellent services to the community and eventually opening Subway, which was Whitney's very first franchise.
Joe had a generous spirit and a kind heart. He often "secretly" provided food and diapers for single mothers and sponsored families at Christmas. He was proudly Santa's helper in full red uniform and beard for over 30 years. He enjoyed travel and family and never said no to an adventure, including parasailing for the first time at the age of 79. He lived life to the fullest every day. He loved nothing more than his role as Dad and PawPaw. Joe was a Christian and a member of the Whitney Church of Christ.
Joe leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Charlotte Cheek, and 3 children: daughter, Lisa Reneau and husband Jeff; son, Wayne Cheek; daughter, Renee Wohleb and husband Clement; five grandsons, Philip Reneau, Ian Reneau, Zackery Reneau, McKennon Wohleb, Braxton Cheek; and one granddaughter, Lexi Wohleb.
Joe is also survived by sister Diana Boren and husband Sam; brother, Ronald Gantz and wife Jody; nieces, Jennifer Leggett and husband Bubba; Amy Marsh and husband Wayne; Donna Peyton and husband Steven; nephews, Josh Gantz and wife Kelly; Jason Gantz and wife Valerie; and Greg Seedorf, as well as a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
The world is truly a sadder place without him in it.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Youth Department of the Whitney Church of Christ.
