Harold Tekell, 82, of Hillsboro died Friday, September 7, 2007, at the V. A. Medical Center in Waco. Harold was born September 4, 1925 in Norton, Texas the son of Newton and Ruby Ivy Tekell. As a child he moved to Central Texas and lived in Hill County most of his life. He joined the U. S. Army on September 1, 1944 and was honorably discharged on July 24, 1946. On June 14, 1947 he married Jean Blissett in Hillsboro. A lifelong farmer, he also served as a City Councilman and Mayor Pro-tem in Hillsboro for many years. In addition, he worked with other leaders to secure the construction of Lake Aquilla. Harold was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, American Legion, past Master of Hillsboro Masonic Lodge #196, a member of the Shrine, and was a York Rite Mason. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Adron Tekell. Survivors include his wife, Jean Tekell of Hillsboro; children, Larry Tekell and wife, Candy, of Itasca, Cindy Young and husband, Andy, of West, Jay Tekell and wife, Lou Nan, of Waxahachie, and Jill Martin and husband, Jeff, of Flower Mound; three brothers, Melvin Tekell and wife, Faye, of Hillsboro, Charles Tekell and wife, Becky, of Itasca, and Jerry Tekell of Italy; two sisters, Joyce Boyd and husband, Zippy, and Dorothy Duncan all of Hillsboro; sister-in-law, Jo Tekell of Bynum; six grandchildren, Dee Tekell, Kalen Tekell, Mac Tekell, Jett Tekell, Benjamin Martin, and Katherine Martin; and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the charity of one?s choice.
