Harrel Hugh Campbell "Scooter" was born on July 18, 1958, to Harrel Cecil Campbell and Helen Clark, in Brinkley, Arkansas.
On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Scooter went to be with our Lord, doing what he loved, working cattle surrounded by friendship and laughter with his boots on...as any cowboy should. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney, Texas.
When he was a teenager, the family moved to Texas, where his step-dad opened a service station. After high school, he returned to Arkansas for a brief period where he realized he was a true Texan and eventually made his way back to the Lone Star State. Scooter often said, "I wasn't born here, but I got here as quick as I could!"
Scooter could tell you about many crazy stories from everything he had experienced in his lifetime. Whether that be from his time of riding broncs and bulls to showing horses to traveling all over building motors for racing to his Cowboy Up ministry. He loved fast boats, motorcycles, cars and the world of drag racing. Scooter traveled all over the country with his step-dad, Joe, where they would thrill at the chance to win the trophy. In 1977 in Ontario, California, they received the NHRA World Pro Comp Championship Award, an awesome and unforgettable day in his life.
For the last twenty plus years, Scooter has selflessly served Christ in what many believe is one of the greatest movements of God's spirit this century. He was present on the first day at Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney, Texas, and helped in its growth from being in the back of a building on FM 933 to its move to the present location, as well as leading the way in the pioneering of Chuckwagon Cooking Ministries in the Cowboy Church planting/developing ministry. He then poured out his life in helping start up Western Churches in Texas and across the Southwest. God called Scooter to serve Him through Western Heritage Ministry. Everyone who knew him, loved Scooter's humble devotion to Christ, his knowledge of western culture, and dedication to our Lord's greatest commandment, "to go and make disciples of all people."
Scooter was very hard working as a Christian man, father and son. There was never a doubt how much Scooter loved the Lord and made sure you knew you were loved. You couldn't go anywhere with him without him shaking hands with someone he knew. And he would hug your neck anytime you ran into him. Being quick of wit, he could always find something to make you smile and share a laugh. Somehow he always knew when an encouraging text or call was needed. If you ever talked to him in the evenings, you'd hear the slight faint of playing cards while he was playing solitaire in the background. He loved to cook and always opened the door to friends and family who needed a meal.
Preceded in death by his father, Harrell Cecil Campbell; and step-father, Joseph Rollen Berry, Jr., he is survived by his mother, Helen Berry of Brinkley, Arkansas; his sister, Penny Smith of Sparta, Tennessee; his brother, Joey Berry, of Brinkley, Arkansas; his daughter, Meagan Brooke Saxon and spouse, Robbie Saxon of Lowell, Arkansas; his son, Garrett Campbell of Woodbury, Texas; his grandchildren, Grayson, Kimberly and Maximus; and multiple nieces and nephews.
