Harry Blount

Harry Frazier “Flab” Blount, 92, of Hillsboro passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Mr. Glen MacDonald of Hillsboro Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, at the funeral home.

He was born October 18, 1923 in Hillsboro to Harry G. and Mary Mildred (Frazier) Blount. A Hillsboro resident for most of his life, Flab was a 1942 graduate of Hillsboro High School. While attending Hillsboro Junior College, he played on the 1948 state junior college championship football team and played in the Junior Sugar Bowl in Louisiana. Following college, he went to work for the United States Post Office and continued there for more than 20 years. He was united in marriage to Kathy Jackson in 1956.

In the late 1960's, Flab bought a men’s clothing store on the square in Hillsboro. A few years later, he relocated the store to I-35 and named it the Brand-N-Iron where he sold western wear exclusively. He continued in the store until his retirement in 1993. During the late 1970's, he served three terms as mayor of Hillsboro. Flab loved all things about the University of Texas and all sports, especially football. He was a member of Hillsboro Church of Christ, Hillsboro Rotary Club, and for a number of years a notoriously distinguished member of the “Learning Center.”

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Teddy Crowley; and brother, Donald W. Blount.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Kathy Blount of Hillsboro; daughter, Becky Blount of Stamford; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Jonelle Blount of Hillsboro, Jim and Sue Bruce of Abbott, and Mickey and Barbara Jackson of Frisco; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hillsboro Church of Christ, P. O. Box 733, Hillsboro, TX 76645; Hill County Paw Pals, P. O. Box 1533, Hillsboro, TX 76645; or Alzheimer’s Association, 6605 Sanger Ave. Suite 1, Waco, TX 76710.
