Biography

Harry Lamonte Ellis, age 88, of Denver, CO, formerly of Itasca, TX, died of cancer on Thursday, April 28, 2011, in the Veterans Nursing Home in Denver. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Central Baptist Church in Itasca, TX. Burial will follow at Itasca Cemetery.

Harry was born to Ethel and Edward Ellis in Elgin, Arizona. He graduated from Nogales, Arizona High School in 1940. After serving the United States Navy for two and one-half years in the Pacific theater in World War II, he married Freddy Sue Pruitt in 1946 and they produced two children, Larry Don and Sue Ann who graduated from the University of Oklahoma without the aid of any student loans.

During the 1950’s, Harry helped build the Plato Baptist Church in Duncan, OK and served there as a Deacon. Harry worked for Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Company in Duncan for 40 years and retired as Fire Chief. In the 1980s he and his son, Larry, built a new radio station in Duncan, where he was the chief engineer for almost twenty years.

In 2001 Harry and his wife moved to Itasca, TX, where Freddy Sue had grown up. Six years later, because of health problems and a desire to be near their son and family, they moved into an assisted living retirement center in Denver.

Survivors include his wife, Freddy Sue; son, Larry Don and wife, Jill, of Denver; daughter, Sue Ann Wagner and her husband, Don, of Katy, TX; two sisters, Gwen Fouts of Ft. Worth, TX and Betty Hull of Corpus Christi, TX; brother, George Ellis and his wife, Marilyn, of Colorado Springs, CO.; grandchildren, Christine and Jonathan Ellis of Denver, Joshua, John Jacob Wagner and Julia Leinen of Oklahoma City. Mr. Ellis has six great-grandchildren; 20 nieces and nephews; and 47 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
