Harry Lee Mitchell, 90, formerly of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 in Waco. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 14, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro, Texas with Rev. Edward Sumrall officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM, Tuesday prior to the service.

Harry was born June 7, 1922 , the oldest of two children, to Jack and Hazel Mitchell in McMillan, Oklahoma. He was a 1941 graduate of Olney, Texas High School. From 1942-1946, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Separation Center in Portland, OR. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended the University of Texas and graduated in 1951 with a degree in petroleum engineering.

On August 31, 1951, he married Margaret Millard. Harry worked for several oil companies, as well as the Libyan government from 1972-1974, and retired from El Paso Natural Gas in March of 1986.

Harry was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Odessa and had been a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church before it closed. He served as both an elder and a deacon and was involved with Meals on Wheels. An avid golfer, he had two holes-in-one, one a par 4. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing, and pheasant hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and the love of his life, his wife, Margaret.

Harry is survived by his children Stan Mitchell and wife, Nancy of Waco and Greg Mitchell and wife, Patti of Midland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law ,George and Lopey Millard of Bynum; grandchildren, Liz Mitchell and her husband, Carl Thames of Hewitt, Amanda Potts and her husband, Matt of Austin, Jones Mitchell of Waco and Katy Mitchell of Odessa; great-granddaughter, Scout Potts; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to McLennan Community College, 1400 College Dr., Waco, TX 76708 or the Methodist Children's Home, 1111 Herring Ave, Waco, TX 76705.
