Hattie Davis

Hattie Beazley Davis of Hillsboro passed away on Friday, March 30, 2007, in her home. Oscar Wilde once wrote, ?One should never trust a woman who tells one her real age. A woman who would tell one that, would tell one anything.? It should be known that above all, Hattie Davis was a woman who could be trusted. Hattie, a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Hillsboro, was very active in the TLAS Sunday School Class, the Quilters and Senior Activities. She lived a full life as a mother, grandmother, teacher?s aide, volunteer, and friend. She was born in Grapeland, Texas. After her parents? death, she lived with various relatives around east Texas. She graduated from Crockett High School in the late 1930?s. In 1942 she married Joe Bradford Davis in St. Petersburg, Florida. Their only child, Denise was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1951. The young family moved to Hillsboro, Texas in 1956 where Joe opened a car dealership and sold the first Edsel in Hill County. After Joe?s sudden passing in 1957, Hattie dedicated herself to raising their daughter. She worked as a teacher?s aide at Franklin Elementary School for many years until her retirement in the early 1980?s. Her mother and father, Oscar and Minnie Beazley; her brother, Oscar Beazley; and her husband, Joe Bradford Davis, preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving daughter, Denise Rosalyn Davis Hopkins and her husband Jim Wilhite of Georgetown, Texas and her grandchildren, Tiffany Dawn Hopkins of New Haven, Connecticut, Adam Bradford Davis Hopkins of San Marcos, Texas, Benjamin John Davis Hopkins of San Antonio, Texas, and Elizabeth Anne Hopkins of Georgetown, Texas. Her quick wit and independent spirit will be greatly missed. Let it be known that until the end she always did exactly what she wanted. Her family expresses a heartfelt thanks to her many friends and neighbors especially the wonderful staff of Hospice Care and Theresa Martin for their faithful help and assistance. Memorials and donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church P. O. Box 673 Hillsboro, TX 76645.
