Helen Shipp

Helen Oleta Shipp, 80, of Hillsboro passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro with Rev. Derrell Surface officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Born January 21, 1939, in Whitney, she was the daughter of Lonnie Lee and Willie Ethel (Ivie) Dobbs. She grew up in the Hillsboro and Whitney areas, attending school in Union Bluff and Hillsboro. On May 31, 1993, Helen was united in marriage to Raymond Shipp and he preceded her in death on January 30, 2013.

Helen worked at Best Cleaner and Laundry in Hillsboro. She later was employed as a CNA at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home-Hillsboro and Canterbury Villa Nursing Home-Hillsboro and also worked in dietary and laundry in two nursing homes in San Angelo before her retirement.

In her younger years, Helen enjoyed music and dancing. She also loved traveling, camping, and fishing. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Hillsboro.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Melissa Kay Prosser; two sisters; a brother; a granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters.

Survivors include two daughters, Paula Day and husband, James, of Hillsboro and Rhonda Lewis and husband, Lanny, of Aquilla; two sisters, Juanita Brown of Quinlan and Sue Thomas of Whitney; four grandchildren, Samantha Hasan and husband, Mathis, of Hillsboro, Melissa Oleta Prosser of Hillsboro, Brandy Prosser, of Robinson, and Joseph Lee Lewis of Aquilla; and five great-grandchildren.
