Hershel was the son of William T. and Mable Riffe Davis. After graduating from Bishop High School, Hershel moved to Abilene where he graduated from Abilene Christian College with a B. A. Degree in 1958. He entered the ministry as a gospel preacher serving in Olivia and George West before moving to Whitney Church of Christ. While there he met and married Jo Nell Schronk on September 3, 1964. Following the couple?s marriage, he continued to preach the gospel in many communities in Texas and also in Missouri before moving to Hillsboro in 1970. Preceding him in death were his parents; five sisters, Marie Strickland, Lorraine Atkins, Laverne Mullan, Gladys Clemons, and Artis Autry; and one brother, W. T. Davis, Jr. Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Jo Nell Davis of Hillsboro; a very special chosen grandson, Jose Manuel ?Manuelito? Orozco, Jr. of Hillsboro; one brother, James E. Davis and wife, Margaret, of Houston; two sisters, Dorothy Nix of Sugarland and Margie Heck of Taft; three brothers-in-law, Charles Schronk of Waxahachie, Robert V. Schronk and wife, Gay, of Abilene, and Billy Schronk and wife, Sylvia, of Troup; along with numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
