Hollis Comer

Hollis Comer 77, of Itasca, Texas, passed away on April 4, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas, with burial following at the Itasca Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall.

Hollis was born on August 7, 1944, in Milford, Texas, or, as he would have described, by the creek. Hollis worked several jobs as a ranch hand and appliance repairman with Sears before he started his career with Hilco Electric and retired after twenty-two years as a first-class lineman. He loved his job and explaining what kind of pole you saw on the side of the road and how we get electricity.

Hollis was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and most of all his most important title of Papa! He loved his grandchildren more than anything else and spoiled them with love, toys, and lawnmower rides even when he could barely walk. Hollis married Sue Wilhelm on June 26, 1971, in Fort Worth, Texas and they were married for almost fifty-one years. They lived most of their married life in Itasca.

Hollis was preceded in death by his parents James “Bus” and Vada Jones Comer, baby brother George Comer, sister Dorothy Hestand, brothers in law F.L. Upchurch and Melvin Hestand, along with several nephews and niece.

Hollis is survived by his wife Sue Comer, children Holly and Brian Surginer of Waco, Michelle and Rian Mills of Itasca, Sister Ann Upchurch of Hillsboro, Brother Richard and wife Juanita Comer of Itasca, grandchildren Jake Comer, Kane Surginer, Abigail “Abby” Mills, and Cooper Mills, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to Compassus Hospice, Doctor Jeremiah Seely, family and friends that surrounded and supported our family during this difficult time.
