Hollis Jean

Hollis Jean passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022. He was born November 14, 1930, to Charlie and Pearl Jean in Covington, Texas. He was the 6th of 9 children born on the family farm in Hill County.

Hollis is survived by his loving wife, Kathie; 5 children, Caren and husband James, Sandie and husband Stephen, Steven and wife Delana, Jay and wife Donna, Jason and wife Kristi; 2 sisters, Robbie and Wanda; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Family has always been of the utmost importance to Hollis, and he showered them with love, kindness and generosity.

Hollis joined the Air Force at 17 but was sent home after a year to take care of his sisters and mother when his father passed away suddenly. Soon after, he was drafted by the Army and was stationed in Germany. When he arrived back in Texas, he enrolled in Texas Wesleyan University and received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business and then his master’s degree in Education in 1958. He became the youngest Superintendent in Texas when he accepted his first position. He served at Covington ISD, Lometa ISD, and Whitney ISD in his 34 years as Superintendent. He always loved his staff, school board, students and community wherever he served, and was loved and respected by all. Hollis retired in 1993 and enjoyed working on his ranch, playing golf, and playing dominoes with his buddies. This remarkable man was self-made and admired and revered by his family, friends, and school personnel. Hollis was a member of First Baptist Church, loved God and prayed daily. Heaven has received an amazing, yet humble, angel.
