Irene Hill

Irene Hill, 92, of Aquilla, passed away on December 1, 2016, at a Whitney nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney. Burial will follow at Smith Bend-Coon Creek Cemetery in Bosque County. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., on Friday, December 2, 2016, at the funeral home.

Irene was born on January 15, 1924, in Whitney, to John and Willie (Essery) Shaw. On February 8, 1941, she married J.B. Hill and they were married for 71 years before his death on January 2, 2012. She lived in Whitney and Aquilla most of her life. She was a former member of House of Prayer Baptist Church and attended Lebanon United Methodist Church.


Along with her husband, J.B., she was also preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter; four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her children, James W. Hill of Aquilla, Marita Steele and husband, Lanny of Whitney; grandchildren, Carla Campbell and husband, Paul of Mesquite, Kyle Hill of Aquilla, Keith Steele, Shanna Jones and husband, Mike, and Kim Austin and husband, Ben, all of Whitney; and seven great-grandchildren.
