Iva Lee Whitley Crowe, 82, of Whitney, passed away on June 24, 2016, at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney, with Brother Dell Glenn, officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m., at the I.O.O.F. Odd Fellows Cemetery in Quinlan, TX. A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28th at the funeral home.
Iva was born on July 12, 1933, in Point, TX, to Homer and Cora (Rushing) Whitley. She was an active and faithful member of Grace Temple Baptist Church in Oak Cliff from 1962-2003 where she taught Sunday school and also worked in the church nursery where she enjoyed the kids and working with them. She was currently a member of First Baptist Church in Whitney.
A working mother, she also raised two boys, sometimes working two jobs to support them. An avid animal lover, she loved birds and especially loved her pet parakeets. She also enjoyed traveling with her son and her sister and brother-in-law.
Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Jackie Evans; a brother, Weldon Whitley; a sister, Billie Sue Smith; and a niece Charmaine Whitley.
Survivors include her son, Carlton Evans of Whitney; 2 grandchildren, Matt Evans and wife, Julie of Fort Worth; and Carla Cain and husband, Tony of San Antonio; 5 great-grandchildren, Avery Evans and Jacob Evans of Fort Worth and Abby Cain, Ava Cain and Axton Cain, all of San Antonio; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
