J. W. Whalen

J. W. Whalen, 77 of Whitney passed away on October 12, 2011 in Waco.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Vaughan Cemetery in Vaughan with Rev. Kenneth Steffen officiating.

J. W. was born on March 28, 1934 in Tyson; the son of the late Martin and Winona (Crawford) Whalen. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard. On April 11, 1959 he married Dorothy June Dillenger and she preceded him in death on July 12, 2010. J. W. worked for Rockwell Collins in Richardson as a microwave engineer for 25 years and retired in 1989. He was an avid traveler, enjoyed going and visiting many places. After retirement, he settled down and became a farmer which he loved and especially liked raising hay in the Peoria Community. Bubba, his dog was dearly loved. He was of the Baptist faith.

Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Kenneth and Les Whalen.

Survivors include his children, Russell Whalen and wife, Carol of Aquilla, Pamela Scharman of Destin, Florida, Michael Horton and wife, Judy of Mesquite; grandsons, Jason Whalen and wife Laura of Whitney, Jeff Whalen of San Antonio and several great grandchildren.

Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors, 201 N. Bosque, Whitney, Texas is in charge of the service.
