Jack Taylor, age 72, of Hillsboro passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 8, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Amy Anderson of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating.
Jack was born in West Union, Ohio on May 6, 1943 to Marion Mack and Anna Dell (McGraw) Taylor. He grew up in Ohio until moving to Lawton, Oklahoma, at age 18. In 1966, he entered the U. S. Army and served with the Artillery in Viet Nam. While in the service, he married Betty Lou Langford. The couple lived in southeast Oklahoma until she preceded him in death. During his years in Oklahoma, Jack worked for the Lawton, Oklahoma fire department until his retirement. While working at the fire department, Jack taught himself how to build homes starting with the family’s first home. This led to a career as a custom home and pool builder that was one of his biggest sources of pride and accomplishment throughout his life.
On June 4, 1988, he and Jeannie Vaughn were married in Richardson, where they lived until moving to Houston in 1989. After 11 years in Houston, they moved back north to Lancaster where they remained until settling in Hillsboro in 2014. Throughout those years, Jack was a builder, working in both residential and commercial construction. A gifted craftsmen, he could make most anything and took great pleasure in building projects and toys for his family.
When he could find the time, he loved to get away and do some fishing. He also was a talented singer and loved to entertain with a song.
Also, preceding him in death were his parents, 3 sisters and 5 brothers. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeannie Taylor of Hillsboro; 4 children, Angie Khan of Red Oak, Brad Taylor of
Lancaster, Brien West of Hillsboro, and Melissa Johnson and husband, David, of Avalon; 2 sisters, Gladys Derby and husband, Bill, of Apache, OK and Flo Taylor of Oklahoma City, OK; 8 grandchildren, Kayla Fore, Briana West, Austyn Johnson, Trevor West, Jackson Khan, Ciara West, Kade Johnson, and Brennan West; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Memorials contributions may be made to the Baylor Martha Foster Lung Care Center for research on COPD and asthma. Checks should be payable to Baylor Health Care Foundation,
