James Hoyt Cook, 47, of Waxahachie passed away Friday, June 15, 2012, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Whitney with Rev. Eddie Booth officiating. The family will receive visitors Wednesday, June 20, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.
The son of Hoyt Clive and Linda Kay (Keeton) Cook, James was born in Whitney on August 3, 1964. He graduated from Whitney High School in 1982. Attending Ranger Junior College on a football scholarship, he became the first freshman ever to start on the team.
An avid sports enthusiast, James enjoyed all types of sports including fishing, NASCAR, baseball and football. Although he loved the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys, his favorite teams were the Philadelphia Eagles and Texas Longhorns. Music was a major part of his life and he enjoyed listening to all types.
James was a certified technician in water restoration for Dry Force in Irving, Texas. He was of the Baptist faith.
James loved his family and grandchildren unconditionally and was an awesome father, husband and a really cool "Pops". A very loving son and unique person, James was a friend to everyone with which he came in contact.
Survivors include his wife, Shelli Cook; parents, Hoyt and Kay Cook; children, Jamie Renea Cook, Devan Renee Andrews, Hoyt Greer Kevin Cook; grandchildren, Khaden Cole Cancilla, Clinton Ty Cancilla, Joseph Clinton Cancilla; father and mother-in-law, Dick and Nita Hickman; uncles, Perry Shelly and Pete Cook; aunts, Barbara Hill, Wannie Williams, Angie Rich and Kathy Wilkinson; cousins, Mike Shelly, Sandi Shelly, Brad Cook, Paige Cook, Jaclyn Cox, and Tracey Lynn Cox; and life-long companion, Marlin Cook.
