James Dumas


James Kenneth Dumas, 83, of Cleburne died Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at Odyssey Health Care in Fort Worth. He was born July 30, 1926 in Hillsboro the son of George B. and Bertha Bradley Dumas. In December 1942 at age 16, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for 38 years. On December 1, 1945 he married Marchieta Harrington and she preceded him in death on July 20, 2008. After marriage, they lived in Dallas briefly before spending a couple of years in Hillsboro. While in the service, Kenneth and his family lived in many places, including Hawaii for seven years. Since 1985 they had resided in Cleburne. He loved restoring old cars and playing golf. During the 50's he ran Dumas Flying Service, teaching flight instruction. He continued to give check rides as an instructor through 2005. For many years, he flew for a private family after his military service. Also preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Hayden Dumas. Survivors include his children, Penny Sue Venglar and husband, Patrick, of Port Orchard, WA and Kenneth Patrick Dumas and wife, Pam, of Lucas; sister, Billie London of Lewisville; sisters-in-law, Doris Dutton of Hillsboro and Kaye Harrington of Mesquite; five grandchildren, Amy Narkiewicz and husband, Tony, Molly Foster and husband, Chris, and Susan Olson and husband, Jeremy, all of Port Orchard, WA; Dane Dumas and wife, Myreia and Cole Dumas all of Lucas; four great-grandchildren, Megan and Chloe Foster both of Port Orchard, WA, Christopher Brayden Dumas of Lucas, and Anthony Narkiewicz of Port Orchard, WA; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church - Cleburne, 414 North Main Street, Cleburne, TX 76033. Kenneth may be viewed beginning mid-day Saturday until service time on Monday.
