James Larry Fowler

James Larry Fowler passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024, at his home in Whitney, Texas. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Whitney Church of Christ, with Bruce Martin officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be, Dustin Fowler, Jordan Fowler, Miles Abel, Jarrett Abel, Toby Nimitz, Lou Cartwright, Jeff Strickland and Shannon Strickland. A burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Garden of Memory, Hillsboro. A visitation will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, August 23, 2024, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.

James was born February 7, 1934, in Haskell, Texas, to W.A. and Fay Fowler.

He had a tremendous life which involved his service in the United States Marine Corps and as a public educator and coach for over thirty years. James loved family get-togethers, fishing, and being a great storyteller. James' greatest love was for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He and his wife Bobbe were active members of the Whitney Church of Christ.

James is preceded in death by his loving wife, Bobbe Jane Fowler; his parents, W.A. and Fay Fowler; his sisters and their husbands, Al and Mary Cartwright of Munday, Texas, Leroy and Shirley Strickland of Hawley, Texas; his son and wife Stewart and Virginia Nimitz. He is survived by his children, AnnBeth Abel and her husband, Shane, Greg Fowler and his wife, Karen, Michael Fowler, Fred Fowler, Edward Fowler, and Roger Fowler; five grandsons, Toby Nimitz, Miles Abel, Dustin Fowler, Jarrett Abel, and Jordan Fowler; one granddaughter, Heidi Thompson; and seven great-grandchildren.

James requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Whitney Church of Christ, 109 E. Jefferson Avenue, Whitney, Texas 76692. The footprints he left behind were impressionable and he will be missed by those who knew him.
