Biography

James Lawrence Lewis, 59, of Arlington passed away Monday August 20, 2018, in Arlington. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2018, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Pastor Tom Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from Noon-1:00 p.m. Saturday prior to service time. James will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 24, at the funeral home.

He was born in Hillsboro on December 19, 1958, to William K. “Bill” Lewis and Bettye Acton Lewis. He moved to Arlington in 1961, attended Humpty Dumpty Day School, Bess Rankin Elementary, Hutcheson Junior High, and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1977. After finishing Gene Prater Beauty College, he began his career as a hair stylist in 1978 at the Razor’s Edge, owned by Jimmy Sinor. All 40 years of his career in cosmetology were in the metroplex, and he lived in the same house in Arlington for most of 57 years. Wherever James went, there were people he knew and had befriended. He was always there to help them and make them smile. He was humble and kind, and his talent was endless. No one will ever know the seeds he sowed, but his impact on everyone will never be forgotten. Not only was he a great hair stylist, he was an incredible artist as well. He loved horses, pickups, hair, and his mother and father. With James, “Life began with Love and Life ended with Love.”

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Charles Lawrence “Ted” and Pauline Terry Lewis; maternal grandparents, James Leon and Louise Barnes Acton; uncles, James Barnes Acton and John Edward Lewis; and aunt, Harriet Pillman Acton.

Survivors include his parents, William K. “Bill” Lewis and Bettye Acton Lewis; cousins, Nancy Acton-Caldwell and husband, Alan, and daughter, Brittany; Christine Acton Prime and husband, Jeff, and their children, Alyssa and Nick; and John Michael Lewis.
