James Mccullars

James Rodric McCullars, 88, of Brandon passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Darrel Beggs officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Springs Cemetery near Bynum. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2018, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Born October 20, 1930, in Bynum, he was the son of Dewey and Florence (Payne) McCullars. On December 30, 1950, James was united in marriage to Deene Moore in Whitney. For 37 years, he was employed by Ambox Incorporated in Houston, retiring in 1992. A very active and faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro, he served his church as a Deacon. James also served his country in the National Guard for 18 years. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, and was always willing and ready to help anyone in need.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a son, James Rodric McCullars, Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Deene McCullars of Brandon; three sons, Jerry McCullars and wife, Cindy, of Houston, John McCullars and wife, Caroline, of Katy, and Joseph McCullars of Brandon; sister, Gladys Blair of Waco; four grandchildren, Samantha Brasse and husband, David, of Houston, Jason McCullars of Houston, Kaitlin New and husband, Jeremy, of Katy, and Blaine McCullars of Katy; and five great-grandchildren, Sammy McCullars, Alex Britain, Josh Britain, Abby McCullars, and Joshua New.
