James Ray Melton, 80 , of Whitney passed away on Dec. 11, 2008 in Whitney. He was born on Dec. 13, 1927 in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of the late Alex and Ann Deberry Melton. He served as a chef in the United States Air Force from 1951 - 1960. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and was an avid cook and making pecan pies. He was of the Baptist faith. Preceding him in death were his wife, Lena Mae Melton on March 10, 2005 and two sons, Larry and Johnny Melton. Survivors: brother, Garland Melton of Ennis; sisters, Hazel Bowden of Gun Barrell City, Treva Blair of Forreston; 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
