James Guy Neff, 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at his home in Whitney, Texas. A memorial service was held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at the Cowboy Church in Lake Whitney.
Jim was born on September 14, 1943, in Waukegan, Illinois to Gerald and Evelyn Neff. He grew up in Joliet, Illinois where he played football for Joliet Catholic High School. Jim loved the outdoors and would often be found pheasant hunting with his high school friends, sometimes even when school was in session.
Later, he attended Marquette University where he served as social director for three years at his fraternity. Some say he set a new standard for that position.
Jim came to Whitney in 1979 and in 1981, at the encouragement of Bob White, he started working in real estate. He worked with Coldwell Banker for many years until starting his own property management company.
Jim loved to hunt and fish and travelled to many states to enjoy both. He was rarely found without one of his trusted Labrador Retrievers. He cherished his dogs. His passion for the outdoors was second only to his friends and family. He was a longtime member in good standing of the Lake Whitney AA group with 41 years of continuous sobriety. Jim had a major impact on so many lives in a positive way through AA. His wise and caring counsel as well as his friendship will be missed by many.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Evelyn Neff.
He is survived by his brother, Gerry Neff and his sister, Peggy (Ron) Larry as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to Scott and White Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
