James Edward Parton, 80, of Dallas passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017, at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 27, 2017, at Salem-Irene Cemetery near Irene. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 26, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Born February 12, 1937 in Malone, he was the son of Willie B. and Gertrue (Gordon) Parton. Growing up in Hill County, James enlisted in the United States Army following high school. He served in the Rangers in Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand and also served a stint in Alaska. On June 7, 1957, he was united in marriage to Tancie Marie Williams. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2009.
After being honorably discharged in 1975, he received his machinist degree from TSTC and went to work for United States Steel. After leaving US Steel, he supported his family through many various entrepreneurial endeavors. In his spare time, he loved to fish and restore cars. He was a Christian by faith.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Judy Densman; and two brothers, Clyde Parton and Billy Parton.
Survivors include his three children, Jimmy Dean Parton and wife, Helen of North Carolina, Joey Edward Parton and wife, Gina Marie, of Seagoville, and Julie Parton and wife, Esther, of Hurst; sister, Frances Maultsby and husband, Alton, of Bosqueville; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Parton of Peoria and Faye Cain of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren, Tracy, Amber, Lacy, Angel, Tiffanie, Kendra, and Stoney; and nine great-grandchildren.
