James Richcreek


Jim was the son of Lester Earl and Dolly Larr Richcreek He grew up in Coshocton and entered the Merchant Marine when he was too young to enlist in the Army. As soon as he was old enough, he joined the Army and served in France and Italy during WWII. Following the war, he returned to Coshocton where he owned a steam cleaning company and also worked at other jobs. He married Janis Fretague in 1947. After working for the Pennsylvania railroad, he packed up and headed to California for better opportunities. He found those with the Southern Pacific Railroad where he worked as a brakeman and conductor until retiring in October of 1986. Jim moved to Hillsboro in 1994. He married Beth Russell in Hillsboro on April 28, 2001. Following retirement, he took up golf and became very proficient at the sport winning many trophies. His other hobbies included restoring old cars, playing the organ, writing poetry and working word puzzles. He was a member of Line Street United Methodist Church, VFW Post #8571, and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janis in 1992, a daughter Jane Ellen Richcreek, 4 siblings - brother Homer Richcreek, sisters Ellen Lindsey and Lilly Davies, and brother William Richcreek.. Survivors include His wife - Beth Russell Richcreek of Hillsboro; 3 Daughters - Merriam Guzman of River Falls, Wisconsin, Molly Dorociak and husband, Leonard of Hillsboro, Marcia Ballard and husband, Dean of Yorba Linda, California; 3 Step-children: David Russell and wife, Jan of Hillsboro, Rick Russell and wife, Janice of West, Jill Hennig and husband, Turner of Hillsboro; 5 Grandchildren: Michelle Moore and husband, Jeff, Michael Dorociak, Kyle Dorociak, James Ballard, and Marlie Ballard; One Great Grandson, Wesley Guzman Moore; 5 Step-grandchildren, Jamie Doyle, Jacy Russell, Jaron Hennig, Jade Hennig, and Jordyn Russell. Memorials may be made to Line Street United Methodist Church, 304 Line Street, Hillsboro, Texas or the American Cancer Society, 337 Carr Street, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
