James Scott


James Truett Scott, loving husband, father, and friend, 81, of Hillsboro passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2014, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Ken James officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2014, at the funeral home.

A 5th generation Texan, James was born December 28, 1932 in Malone to James Elvie Truett and Glen Ira (Toon) Scott. In 1949, he graduated from Bynum High School and went on to attend Hillsboro Junior College. During the Korean War, he served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army. On April 24, 1955, he was united in marriage to Nancy Harwell. For many years, he worked for Mrs. Baird’s Bread and Farm Bureau Insurance. James also owned and operated The Westerner in Hillsboro for over 40 years, retiring in 1993.

An avid baseball fan, James loved to cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed watching the Dallas Mavericks, working in his garden, and raising chickens. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro and former councilman for the City of Hillsboro for a few years. James was a dedicated family man. His greatest joys in life were his wife, Nancy, and watching his family grow. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother-in-law, Gene Cain.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nancy Scott of Hillsboro; four children, Becky Scott Blair and husband, Chuck, of Hillsboro, Jim “Bo” Scott and wife, Dolores, of Hillsboro, John Scott and wife, Alice, of Whitney, and Robert “Bob” Scott and wife, Martha, of Waco; sister, Glenda Cain of Corsicana; nine grandchildren, Clint Blair and wife, Brandy, Grant Blair and wife, Elizabeth, Kate Ortega and husband, Vince, Kelsey Scott, Callie Scott, Sam Scott, Jim Scott, Lauren Scott, and Truett Scott; and two great-grandchildren, Aidan and C. J. Blair.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
