James McAdoo ?Red? Sessums, 89, of Whitney died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, in the Temple VA Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Sessums was born May 22, 1917 in Whitney, Texas the son of George and Edna Underwood Sessums. He grew up in the Hill County area. In 1942, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served his country until his retirement in 1966. He was an excellent marksman and a cook during his years of military service. He served in Europe during WWII, Burma, India, and the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of Amvets Post #72 in Hillsboro. He married Johanna Tomaszewski in Germany and they had four daughters together. After his military retirement, he worked for Robintech Industries in Hillsboro. He was well known around Hillsboro and spent many of his days hanging out with his friend, Ronnie Carter, at Day & Night Garage. He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes at the Domino Parlor on Elm Street in Hillsboro. He was seen around town selling watermelons on hot summer days down by the railroad tracks. His kindness was always appreciated and he was known to be a ?soft? touch, whether it was to give someone a little money for a rent payment or utilities, or help with groceries for someone?s children. He helped out with dispensing senior commodities for many years. He will truly be missed by anyone that knew and loved him. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, William ?Monk? Sessums and D. D. Sessums. Survivors include four daughters, Rosemary Pesina and husband, Paul, of Whitney, Ramona Harper and husband, Herman of Hampton, VA, and Kristen Meyers and husband, John, and Evelyn Workman and husband, Keith, all of Kempner; two sisters, Martha Luine Holcomb of Hillsboro and Wilda ?Toni? Hill of Orange Grove; nine grandchildren: Brian C. Adams, Dwayne Hopkins, Matthew Hopkins, Shannon Hopkins, Kathy Hicks, Patty Mattingly, Tracy Mattingly, Tara Workman, and Amanda Workman; three great-grandchildren, Christen, Brian, and Brianna Adams; special nieces, Lelia Hall of Fairfield, Helen Bush of Hillsboro, and Iva Miller of Orange Grove; and nephew, Rick Hall of Dallas.
