James Burl “Redneck” Shelton, 68, of Whitney passed away October 5, 2011 after a courageous
battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney with Bro. Brad Orban and Bro. Ricky Villa officiating. Interment will follow at Whitney Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born June 25, 1943 to Roxie Marie Sawyers and E. B. Shelton. James attended schools in Hillsboro. He married Sandra Thorton in 1961 and had two daughters, Bonnie Shelton Lee and Betty Shelton Lee. Sandra preceded him in death in 1997. He then married Sheryl Satterwhite on September 22, 1999. They had two children, Roxie Shelton Goldberg and Christopher Shelton.
He had worked as a backhoe operator for 20 years. James was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandpa and friend. He enjoyed fishing, race car driving and talking on his CB radio. He is very loved and will be greatly missed.
Also preceding him death were his parents; Earl and Roxie Shelton; two sisters, Joyce Karlik and Betty Watson; brother, William Shelton and great granddaughter, Kylee Haygood.
Survivors include his wife, Sheryl Shelton; daughters, Bonnie Shelton Lee and husband, Ricky of Jefferson, Betty Shelton Lee and husband, Jackie of Whitney, Roxie Shelton Goldberg of Hillsboro; son, Christopher Shelton and wife, Kelly of Whitney; two stepsons, Micheal Atwood of Houston and James Criddle; brother, Weldon Shelton and sister, Linda Shelton both of Whitney; grandchildren, Sandra Stubbs Haygood, Jack and Jessica Lee, Jamie and Aarron Motherspau, Amber and Jeremy Frame, Melissa Lee, Jeremy Lee, Shay and Jamie Criddle, Kevin, Mathias and Kally Hines and Kelliana Shelton; 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
