James Edward Stacks, Jr., 70, of Milford passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Mertens with Rev. Terry Jeffries and Rev. Jake Culver officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery in Mertens. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
James was born on September 25, 1946, in Dallas to James E. Sr. and Thelma (Cheshier) Stacks. He grew up in Pleasant Grove and graduated from W. W. Samuel High School and received his Associates Degree from El Centro College. He lived most of his life in the Dallas area. The last 15 years he lived in Milford.
On August 22, 1981, he married the love of his life, Marla Kay Stacks, and they were married almost 36 years. James brought two boys to the family, Brandon and Brett Stacks. His wife, Marla, brought one son to the marriage, Chris Lewis.
James was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mertens. He was well loved by his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything involving the outdoors as well as playing Texas Hold ‘Em with his friends.
James worked for AT&T for 30 years until he retired in 1994. In 1998, he opened his own locksmith business and worked until he was forced by his illness to retire in 2014.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Michael Stacks; and son, Brett Stacks.
Survivors include his wife, Marla; sons, Brandon Stacks and wife, Garland, and Chris Lewis; two grandchildren, Jacob and Gwenith Stacks, who were the light of his life; sister, Carol Likely and husband, David; brother, Robert Stacks; and seven nieces.
