James (Jody) Thurber, 60, of Whitney, passed away on June 12, 2016 at his residence. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney, with Rev. Eugene Arnold officiating. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., on Wednesay, June 15, 2016, at the funeral home.
James was born on November 21, 1955, in Hastings, Michigan, to James and Donna (Awrey) Thurber. He grew up in the Hamilton area and worked as a welder in the west Texas Oilfields before moving to Whitney in the 1980's. He also rode horses and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Linda Wiedebush and a grandson, Colton.
Survivors include his mother, Patricia Thurber of Purdon; children, Jackie Carmack and wife, Susan, of Abilene, Ashley Holliday of Florida and Jason Thurber and wife, Amanda, of Florida; a brother Larry Thurber and wife, Gina, of Hubbard; sisters, Jan Gardner and Michael Sullivan of Angleton, Darlene Logan of Seattle, Washington and Rita Handy and husband, Jesse, of Purdon; and eight grandchildren.
