James Tramel

As the last surviving sibling of the Tramel family of eight, JC passed away peacefully at age 98 on January 19, 2025.

He was born in Bazette, Texas to Herbert and Evelyne Tyner, the 4th in line. As an infant his family moved to West Texas where he graduated from Whiteface High School.

JC was an Army Veteran of WWII, landing at Nagasaki Japan on October 15, 1945. He carried a picture in his billfold his whole adult life of his buddies and him which showed the devastation of the bombing.

After the war JC came to Hillsboro, Texas to the family farm. He then went to Cisco Junior College where he met his loving wife, Greta Kay. They were married for 73 years until her death in 2023.

After a number of moves , he and his wife settled in Pasadena , Texas where they started a family raising their son, Ben and daughter, Scarlet.

He worked at Shell Chemical Company Deer Park Utilities retiring in 1985.

JC was a proud Democrat serving as precinct judge for precinct 188 in Harris Co for over 15 years. After retiring he and his wife moved to Hillsboro, Texas, building their home and working the farm acquired from his family. He took up golf and enjoyed playing dominos. He faithfully attended and enjoyed church and the downtown men's bible class.

JC was a part of what they call the greatest generation. His positive attitude of life, sense of humor and belief of Jesus as his savior sustained him during his 98 years.

Sometimes he would joyfully burst out in song singing Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head. No matter what happened in his life he would always keep moving forward with a positive attitude.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Greta, his parents and his 7 siblings (Melvina Martin, Marie Mathews, Wilford Tramel, Sue Shanahan, Jack Tramel, Jane Reynolds, Joyce Day) May they all be remembered.

He is survived by his daughter, Scarlet (George) Karpakis and son, Ben Tramel.

Donations may be made in his honor to First Baptist Church Hillsboro, 300 E. Franklin St. Hillsboro, TX. 76645
