All who knew her are invited to attend and share in the remembrance of a life well-lived.

Born to Leslie and Ida Sherrill on December 10, 1937, Jamie spent her entire life in the country, starting with sitting on the turnrows of her father’s cotton fields as a child, waiting for the sun to rise so they could see to begin picking the cotton. From her earliest days, she found joy and solace in the great outdoors. Whether tending to the land, scouring the earth for arrowheads, or marveling at the delicate dance of hummingbirds, she found fulfillment in the simple beauty of the natural world.

She married Glen Magee on May 21, 1955, and had one daughter, Vickie. Together, they farmed peanuts and raised cattle in Woodbury for many years.

Her passion for hunting arrowheads was legendary, as she ventured across countless fields in search of these ancient artifacts. Each discovery was not just a relic but a connection to the past, a tangible link to the stories that came before.

But perhaps her greatest fascination was with hummingbirds, those tiny, iridescent creatures that flitted through her yard like fleeting bursts of magic. She spent many an hour watching them, marveling at their grace and agility, finding profound joy in their presence.

Beyond her love of the outdoors, Jamie was a pillar of strength and wisdom for her family and community. Her kindness and unwavering support touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Though she may have left this earthly realm, the legacy of Jamie’s boundless love for the outdoors and her cherished memories will continue to inspire and guide us.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Pat Glover, Louise Lewis, Lillian Mayo, and Dovie Degner. Jamie is survived by her husband of 68 years, her daughter and son-in-law Vickie and George Melton, her granddaughter and her husband Cheryl and Paul Basak, and her great-grandchild Charlie Basak. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the gentle rustle of leaves, the whisper of the wind, and the fleeting flash of hummingbird wings.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Community Healthcare of Texas-Providence Hospice at 6700 Sanger Avenue, Waco or Woodbury Baptist Church.
