It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jan Tankersley on August 9, 2020 at the age of 83. Molly Jan Coker was born to Cloyne and Summerfield Mills Coker on May 4th, 1937 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She graduated from Baylor University with a degree in sociology. During her time at Baylor she met Jon Tankersley on a blind date and he became the love of her life and constant companion for over 60 years. They married on March 6, 1959 in Valley Mills, Texas.
Jan’s love of children led her to a teaching and directing job at Emmanuel Baptist Church. This allowed her the luxury of always being at home when her children were not at school. In later years her love of flowers led her to become a floral designer at Precious Memories in Temple, Texas.
Jan was a loving, devoted wife to Jon and a much loved mother to her children Jil and Jay Tankersley. She was also a friend and surrogate mother to Rosemary Patterson and Stephanie Tankersley. Jan was an adored grandmother to Dylan and Lexie Tankersley and a cherished friend to many.
Jan loved photography, ceramics, animals, helping others, and calls and visits from her grandchildren Dylan and Lexie and countless friends and neighbors. She loved the Lord, her family, and her many friends. Jan never met a stranger; she was a giving, kind, and compassionate person. Her loving husband preceded her in death by seven months to the day. All who loved her will forever carry the mark of her gracious, kind, and undying love and affection for them. Her passing will leave a void in everyone who knew and loved her.
